Mobility Aids for Carers
Mobility Aids for Carers
If you are a carer — whether a family member, support worker, or aged care worker — finding the right mobility aids for the person you support can make daily tasks significantly safer and easier for both of you.
This page covers the products on our site that are particularly relevant for carers, and what to consider when choosing them.
Walking Support
If the person you support needs walking assistance, a rollator or walking frame provides support while allowing them to move independently. A walking aid with a built-in seat means they can rest mid-walk without needing to find a chair.
For carers supporting someone who can no longer walk independently, a motorised walking aid that converts to a powered wheelchair gives more flexibility. Our 2-in-1 electric rollator and wheelchair does exactly this — usable as a walking aid or as a powered wheelchair at the push of a button.
For lighter support, a folding walking stick is a portable option suitable for people who need occasional balance assistance.
Vehicle Access
Helping someone in and out of a car can be physically demanding for carers. A car door assist handle clips into the door striker and gives the person a firm point to push from, reducing the physical assistance you need to provide and giving them more independence in the process.
Hearing Support
If the person you support has hearing difficulty, a personal sound amplifier can make communication easier for both of you. Clearer hearing reduces frustration, improves safety, and supports independence. Browse our hearing aids and amplifiers.
Practical Tips for Carers
- Check dimensions before ordering any equipment — doorway widths, seat heights, and turning radiuses matter
- Involve the person in choosing their aid where possible — independence and dignity are important
- An occupational therapist can assess the home environment and recommend specific equipment — ask for a referral through the GP or hospital
- Keep invoices for any equipment you purchase through an NDIS or aged care package — see our NDIS and funding page for more information
